ABOUT
KARISA HAVERKAMP, CLINICAL DIRECTOR
RP, MACP (CRPO #008192)
About Me
I believe people are more than their symptoms, struggles, or the patterns they developed to survive.
As a psychotherapist, I’m passionate about helping people understand what is happening beneath the surface—especially how attachment, trauma, and our early experiences can shape the way we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us.
My approach is grounded in attachment-based and trauma-informed psychotherapy. I have advanced training in the Dynamic-Maturational Model of Attachment and Adaptation (DMM) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), approaches that have deeply shaped the way I understand healing.
I’m particularly interested in the parts of us that learned to protect us through anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, avoidance, anger, control, or emotional disconnection. Rather than viewing these patterns as something wrong with you, I believe they often developed for very good reasons. Therapy can help us understand these protective patterns, develop greater self-compassion, and create new ways of responding that feel more connected, grounded, and authentic.
A Faith-Integrated Approach
My Christian faith is an important part of who I am, and I offer Christian psychotherapy for clients who want their faith to be meaningfully integrated into their therapeutic work.
I believe psychological healing and Christian faith can meaningfully coexist. For clients who desire it, therapy can create space to explore not only emotional and relational patterns, but also questions of identity, purpose, grace, forgiveness, and what it means to live from a place of faith rather than fear or shame.
For clients who do not want faith incorporated into therapy, my practice remains grounded in evidence-informed psychological approaches.
My Clinical Background
I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and an Honours degree in Clinical Psychology, with specialized experience in trauma, crisis intervention, perinatal mental health, and relational and attachment concerns.
Over the years, I have worked alongside mental health professionals, police, family and children’s services, and other community systems supporting people through complex and often deeply difficult circumstances.
My clinical experience has reinforced something I believe strongly: people make sense when we understand what they have lived through.
A Little About Me
Outside of my clinical work, I’m a mother of four, and I previously worked as a doula. I love learning, being active, spending time with my family, and finding ways to stay connected to the things that make life meaningful.
I bring both professional training and genuine curiosity to my work. I don’t believe therapy is about becoming a different person. I believe it is about becoming more fully yourself—with greater understanding, connection, and freedom.
I would be honoured to walk alongside you in that process.
"Healthy attachment doesn't mean losing yourself in someone else; it's about finding a balance between coseness and individuality."
